Understanding the Cambridge O Level & IGCSE Physics Syllabus 2024

Start by understanding the grading breakdown. Here are the O Level/IGCSE Physics exams you will be appearing in:

  • Paper 1 (MCQs) - 30% weightage

  • Paper 2 (Theory) - 50% weightage

  • Paper 3 (Alternative to Practical / ATP) - 20% weightage

Are you preparing for your Cambridge O Level or IGCSE Physics exam and are feeling overwhelmed by the vast syllabus? Well, you’re not alone. Luckily, Out-Class hs got you covered with a guided revision plan below that can help you stay on track!

Topics in O Level/IGCSE Physics 2024-2025:

The main themes covered in the Physics syllabus are as follows:

  1. Motion, Forces and Energy
  2. Thermal Physics

  3. Waves

  4. Electricity and Magnetism

  5. Nuclear Physics

  6. Space Physics

Each theme has numerous chapters that break down the subtopics. For more detailed information, click here!

Our Physics Roadmap

Given how diverse the syllabus is, we’ve built a roadmap to help you with Physics revision (O Level & IGCSE):

Tip#1: Focus on the Kinematics chapter first.

Concepts and formulas from this chapter are used in other topics under the Motion, Forces, and Energy theme.

Tip#2: Thermal Physics can be studied independently.

It does not have much relation to the others.

Tip#3: Waves chapter is somewhat linked to those on Electricity and Magnetism.

We suggest doing these chapters in order from the book.

Tip#4: Nuclear Physics is relatively simple and can be revised independently from the rest.

Past paper practice is very useful for this chapter since questions are sometimes repeated in the CAIE exam.

Tip#5: Space Physics is the newest addition to the syllabus.

It uses some concepts from the chapters on Energy and Forces and we would advise revising them first.

*Pro-Tip: Out-Class has already built its video lessons according to this list of tips, so just follow them for a good revision as you study!

Out-Class has curated a 30-hour crash course that is available here. This is a useful starting point if you want a to-the-point overview of all the topics you’ll be tested on!
